Children of Men

Children of Men was for me one of the best films of 2006, in fact I might say that it was one of my favourites of all time. Children of Men is a sci-fi drama/ thriller (one might even call it post apocalyptic) which calls back old cinematic film making techniques and employs breathtaking scenery to thrill the audience.

Set in the not too distant future, Children of Men tells the story of a world in chaos as all lives females are sterile and only Britain remains as the only country with order (the United States was ravaged by nuclear war). Although intact and fully functional, the British government has turned to BNP style tactics and have begun the process of deporting all non-British nationals through the use of brutal internment camps on the coast. The story follows one Theo Faron (Owen) as his ex-wife draws him into a operation to sneak the worlds first pregnant woman in 18 years out of the country and into the hands of “The Human Project. The film follows Theo and the pregnant woman (Kee) as they make the journey through the hazardous totalitarian state.

Living like Frodo

We all know how dedicated some Lord of the Rings fans can be (I recommend watching Clerks 2). A family in east Wales has gone one step further and built themselves their very own 'Bag End' hobbit home. Click on the image for more pictures at WTFsrsly.

£1000 Home Cinema. Is it possible?

The question is an interesting one and I was surprised at how little the money could purchase in terms of quality hardware. As such several compromises had to be made in all the equipment recommended.

The TV

The TV was perhaps the most important piece of the setup, and as such the most expensive part. The Toshiba 37WLT66 was chosen because of its large size, value for money, image quality connectivity and stylish looks (although the stand could have been improved visually).

£719.99

DVD Playback

The Sony DVPNS76HS was chosen simply due to its price. A tough choice had to be made between selecting a DVD/ 5.1 setup or a seperate DVD and home theatre system. The latter was chosen to allow full 5.1 playback in both games and movies. The players has good connectivity through HDMI and offers progressive scanning, Divx playback and upscaling of DVDs for HD playback.

£80.99

Audio

Another Sony product was chosen to provide the sound for the home cinema setup. The Sony HTSS1000 has a seperate amp and thus will allow for playback of all your devices through it's 5.1 system providing high fidelity audio to improve your cinema experience.

£199.99
