Top 10 80's Action Films

Foreword

This list is by no means definitive as I have yet to experience the wonder of certain 80's action films such as "Action Jackson", "Red Dawn" etc. Please also note that although Jackie Chan's action movies of the 80's were amazing, there are too many of them so I'll save them for an Asian action movies list later!

The Movies

10. Cobra

9. The Killer

8. Mad Max II

7. Conan the Barbarian

6. Rocky IV

5. Deathwish 3

4. Rambo: First Blood

3. Die Hard

2. Predator

1. Commando

Conclusion

It's no surprise at the inclusion of Arnold three times in the list, and Stallone twice. The 80's was all about big name stars and the movies in this list included many of the greats.

Look out for reviews of the above films sometime soon on sbull.net.

Oh and no, Road House sucked!

Black Dahlia, The

'The Black Dahlia' is one of the latest crime thrillers shot in the style of film noir. The film is based on a novel by the author James Ellroy (who also wrote the successful L.A. Confidential) and is about a string of murders which occur in Hollywood in the 1940's. It tells the story of two detectives – Bucky Bleichert (Hartnett) and Lee Blanchard (Eckhart) who are investigating the death of a young aspiring actress who was found brutally murdered and severed into multiple pieces. The film follows the detectives as they uncover a web of lies and deceit in L.A. society.

The story is based on the real events of the Black Dahlia murder and was excellent throughout. However the film must have followed the story too closely as I found that it went into endless subplots which eventually turned out to be fruitless and only succeeded in adding extra runtime to the movie.

New Transformers Toys

As we edge closer and closer towards the summer release of the Transformers movie, Hasbro have released shots of the new line of toys to go along with the movie. Brings back fond memories of the toys I had in the 1980's!

These are the first toy shots to be released but expect better quality tin versions made by Takara some time soon.

John Travolta's Restored Boeing 707

John Travolta is the only citizen in the USA to own his own 707. His home is essentially an aircraft terminal designed to cater for his passion for airplanes which he personally pilots. Oweing to his vast wealth, no expense was spared whilst refurbishing the 1960's Qantas airliner.

According to the source, "He uses the 707 as the family van, the Gulfstream is his sports car."

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Borat, or to give it its full name, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan was a smash hit success for Sacha Baron Cohen, being the first creation of his to break the American market and his first majorly lucrative movie netting in $126 million in box office sales in the US alone. When you consider that the budget for this production was a mere $18 million, Sacha Baron Cohen's banker must be pretty pleased. The financial success of this movie means that Cohen can focus freely on his latest production, "Dinner for Schmucks", which is due to be released in 2008. I never personally had a chance to see Borat in the cinema so instead I viewed it on DVD alone which was perhaps a mistake as the comedy involved would probably be best viewed with friends as it is extremely cringeworthy.

Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider was originally planned for a summer 2006 release. However, director Mark Steven Johnson asked for more time to complete more action shots.

March 2 2007

In order to save his dying father, young stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze sells his soul to Mephistopheles and sadly parts from the pure-hearted Roxanne Simpson, the love of his life. Years later, Johnny's path crosses again with Roxanne, now a reporter, and also with Mephistopheles, who offers to release Johnny's soul if Johnny becomes the fabled, fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice. Mephistopheles charges Johnny with defeating the despicable Blackheart, Mephistopheles's nemesis and son, who plans to displace his father and create a new hell even more terrible than the old one.

Kazakhstan Dancing

Here I was thinking that American hip-hop videos were bad. See for yourself what happens when a Kazakhstani artist thinks he can do the same.
